SOPHIE ENTWISLE, PRINCIPAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, PEGASUS GROUP

Innovation and creating smarter, more efficient workflows for companies is not a new way of thinking. Landscape architects are now mainly desk-based, and their output is largely created digitally, creating a need for software to communicate our ideas effectively and efficiently. As a result, software packages are becoming increasingly complex, so having the ability to innovate on the software used each day and having the people to support and facilitate this is more important than ever.

Landscape architects need to be at the forefront of new research and ever-increasing data availability, software advances, and new policies that affect our work. Equally, the software needs to be proactive and dynamic in responding to this.

This presentation will highlight some of the key innovations and collaborations to date and those ambitions for the future development of the software, demonstrating the ever-increasing importance of partnership between practitioner and software.

  • 13:10 – 14:30 | Networking Lunch and Tech Desk Open

  • 14:30 – 15:00 | Unlocking Hospitality Trends: A Journey with I-AM

PETE CHAMPION , GROUP PARTNER & CREATIVE STRATEGY DIRECTOR, I-AM
KIRSTY VANCE, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF INTERIOR DESIGN, I-AM

Join Pete Champion and Kirsty Vance of I-AM for a journey through the ever-evolving landscape of hospitality design, uncovering the hidden dynamics of modern hotel experiences through research, insights, and real-world application.

To begin, your hosts will introduce their ‘LIFE-LED™’ philosophy, a distinctive method based on the intersection of research, design, and human experience that allows them to create immersive and purposeful spaces that cater to the evolving needs of today's guests, building brand value. Next, dive into a discussion about how the emphasis on hotel experiences is increasingly pivoting from the traditional focus on rooms and stays to the ‘peripherals’ that surround them. To illustrate the implications it holds for future design, you’ll walk through a compelling case study centred on Center Hotels, showcasing how I-AM's principles were brought to life in a tangible project, and see how Vectorworks played a crucial role in realising the vision of Center Hotels, highlighting the software's integration within the design process.

  • 15:00 – 15:30 | Afternoon Break and Tech Desk Open

  • 15:30 – 16:00 | Developing Workflows: Designing a New Residential Neighbourhood

RACHEL PICKFORD, PROJECT ARCHITECT AND THE VECTORWORKS LEAD, SARAH WIGGLESWORTH ARCHITECTS

Sarah Wigglesworth Architects (SWA) is an award-winning design practice that specialises in low-energy buildings and sustainable communities. SWA believe in a people-centered approach that acknowledges, rectifies, and minimises the social, environmental, and economic impacts of their work, through the life cycle of every project.

SWA’s presentation will give an overview of their practice’s Vectorworks strategy and how this has progressed over time. They have developed office resources, templates, and dedicated manuals to optimise their workflow to ensure continuity and standardisation across projects.

SWA will talk us through one of their recent projects, The Elms, a new residential neighbourhood in Nottingham, comprising 60 homes on a steeply sloping, landscaped site. They will present how this project was set up in Vectorworks to support the design development of housing typologies (plan layouts/space planning), streets, and public realm (sketch visuals and massing), culminating in a coordinated proposal for this new neighbourhood (planning drawings and schedules.)

The presentation will conclude with key lessons learnt from the project and ways in which SWA are looking to continue improving and developing its technological workflows.
